Smoke and Mirrors: Ultra-Rapid-Scan FT-IR
Spectrometry
First, conventional FT-IR technology is examined to see why bog standard
instruments arent capable of very short scan times. This is followed by a literature
review both to see what past efforts have to offer and to follow the path of invention
that led to a novel FT-IR instrument. This flows naturally to a discussion of the design
and operation and onto the first experimental results. These are only preliminary results
- more than three-quarters of the interferograms that had been transformed up to August
1997 are shown in these slides. These arent selected data - they were the only data
available at the time of ICOFTS 11.
